After BTS fell to the same Hongyen side earlier in the group round, the team from the eastern part of Java was eager to get rid of the Thais.

It's incredible that Indonesia has won this contest for the first time, especially given that we also won the Indonesian league championship. Since we had objectives in mind early on, we felt confident. "We are champions, therefore we should be delighted that we won a tough game," BTS head coach Hector Souto said.

The previous six games had all been won by Thai teams, specifically Chonburi Bluewave in 2019, Port FC in 2015, 2016, and 2018, and Bangkok BTS in 2018. (2019 and 2021).

This time, BTS primarily drew inspiration from Edison Machado Coelho. BTS just defeated defending champion Black Steel Manokwari to capture the Indonesian League championship in a thrilling encounter.

Wendel Mendes of Hongyen and Katawut Phoopan, the captain of BTS, both had early scoring opportunities. However, BTS took the lead in the 11th minute when Samuel Eko Tampubolon swerved a shot past Jaroenpong Prasansat.

Coelho doubled BTS's lead four minutes later by eluding two opponents and sending the ball past Jaroenpong.

Ampol Sriragaew's free kick in the 18th minute assisted Hongyen in regaining momentum as they upped the ante.

Two minutes into the second half, Keattisak Songkhrao equalized, and Hongyen's supporters got to their feet.

But BTS remained steadfast. By utilizing a dropped ball at the midway point, Andri Kustiawan reclaimed the lead. Coelho kept composure to strike the ball into Hongyen's goal six minutes later, raising the score to 4-2.

The enthralling final game came to a conclusion as time ran out and tempers boiled when Hongyen's Katawut was sent off and BTS received two yellow cards, including one for head coach Souto.
